Because I support Han Geng with my own style…

When I first followed Han Geng, the site called “forhangeng” was my first source to find more information before I finally joined Geng-Bao.Net. After I joined the forum, and contribute actively, though not regularly as before, I still visit forhangeng, because I like the way the authors shared their perspectives about anything related to Han Geng 🙂

I remembered it was an ordinary day when I read the post about one Indonesian Gengfans, which interesting and tingled my thought a little bit,

“Here is one very devoted and determined Gengfan who traveled all the way from her hometown of Mataram, Indonesia to Hong Kong…Not only determined but also a very lone Gengfan in that part of the world.. Prior to the Fan-meeting in HK, she had been to Singapore and Thailand for those two fan-meetings.. From Singapore, she followed HG to Bangkok, Thailand.”

From the day I read the post, I couldn’t stop asking myself the same question. What is actually devoted and determined Gengfans?

I kept thinking about the other Gengfans who’s spent their days and nights to create many things or arranged many events to show their love and support for Han Geng. The Thai Gengfans, who’s praying in 9 temples for Han Geng and done the charities for nursery orphanage including serving lunch for them, long before Han Geng comes to Thailand. Those Gengfans who held Let Love Fly for 3 years in the row. Have we ever knew, that probably some of them donated from their savings? Sacrificed their other pleasures so they will have enough money to donate? I believe, those Gengfans were doing charities, not to make Han Geng proud or to get worldwide attention. I believe they did all the charities because they want to share their love to others, because Han Geng inspired them to do so.

I am also thinking about those who dedicated their times to manage an international fansite to make sure that the international Gengfans would have updates and reliable information about Han Geng. Those who spent their time to made the Geng-Bao.Net’s Birthday Project Video for Han Geng. Or those who joined the video. Some of them were camera shy, never let their faces shown to the outside world. But they eager not only showing their faces but also singing one line from Wings of Love. They dare themselves to do one action, that for those who don’t understand, considered as stupid and silly. Or those who never publicized, but has done lots of things for their surroundings, because Han Geng inspired them to do things out of their convenient shells?

When I wrote this blog, I tried to figure out what is actually the devoted & determined Gengfans?

Was doing charities without publication and silently praying for Han Geng, could be counted as part of being devoted & determined Gengfans?

Is doing translations, subbings, sharing more information in English or other languages for International fans can not be counted as being devoted & determined Gengfans?

Was writing one song from the heart to support Han Geng can’t be counted as devoted & determined Gengfans?

Was forming a human barrier at the airport to make sure that Han Geng is save can’t be counted as devoted & determined Gengfans?

Was saving pocket money to can buy his original album, his concept book or ticket to his concert can’t be counted either?

Was holding oneself from bothering Han Geng during his holiday can’t be counted as devoted & determined Gengfans?

Do I need to travel from my remote area across all the continents to meet him first, before I can be called an devoted & determined Gengfans?

Do I need to have pictures showing me together with Han Geng, before I can be called devoted & determined Gengfans?

If I don’t have enough money to do traveling or I chose to use my money to do more important things because of my responsibilities, then I can’t be called a devoted & determined Gengfans?

Do I need the whole world to know my love and support for Han Geng first, before I can be called a devoted & determined Gengfans?

Can’t I just silently love and support him from my remote place, without any publications, without traveling around the world to meet him, without no one knows that I am exist and still can be called devoted & determined Gengfan?

At the end of my writing, I got my personal answer. I know I can, because I am the part of Han Geng’s Wings of Love. I know I can, because the purpose of the Wings of Love is to make Han Geng stronger, so he can fly higher to reach his ultimate goal.

As the one devoted & determined Gengfan, I want to be one feather on Han Geng’s Wings of Love. Unseen, but along with the other feathers, I can create wider and stronger Wings of Love for Han Geng. All feathers on Han Geng’s Wings of Love are precious; none is more precious than the others. None of the feathers should get more attention than the others.

As the true & devoted Gengfan, I don’t need to be the inspirational glorious feather on Han Geng’s Wings of Love, just the simple but strong one. Because all I want is to support him with my whole heart as long as I can.

The reason I wrote this blog was because I am standing on the other side of the moon. I viewed and experienced different face of the moon. Different from the others who view the moon from opposite side.

I wrote this blog, so I can share what I see through my heart, my personal point of view and my own analysis.

The Unique Mannerism of Gengfans

When I first followed Han Geng few months ago, it’s not only his amazing performance and charming behavior that caught my attention. There was something else that dragged my attention. The so called “Gengfans”.

For so many years, I have seen almost the same attitude from those called “fans” It was common to see the screaming fans, the queuing fans, even the extreme fans that following their idols everywhere, trespassing their idols’ privacy. Not only once I read the news about how fans harmed their idols because of their extreme obsessions.

That was why Gengfans dragged my attention. Though Gengfans ranging from young fans to mature and old fans, they all showing almost the same behavior. Their attitude and manner reflect their style in supporting Han Geng. Their attitude and manner were totally different from the other fans I knew before.

During my Geng fandom period, I also found more interesting manner that really unique. It was while welcoming or sending Han Geng at the airport. It was amazing to see how Gengfans stand on each side, at least one meter from the line to make sure there will be enough space for Han Geng to pass by. They sometimes form a human barrier to make sure there will be no one gets out of the line. The strong love and respect make Gengfans care about Han Geng’s safety and convenience.

Those unique & wonderful manners, made Han Geng very proud of his fans. Not only once or twice he stated that his fans are the best fans, because they’re sincere and mature.

“Every time I travel, they will go to the airport to receive or send me off,
they are really self-conscience, split into two rows and left a path for me to walk,
they will form a barrier to prevent others from going in. Yes, they are very mature”

The other most important is the manner of respecting Han Geng’s private life. No written rules about that, but its already becoming the legitimate rule for Gengfans, no pictures of Han Geng while he’s having his private time, including while he’s having medical checkup or holidays. No wonder it’s rare to see fan pictures taken while Han Geng is having his private time. Only private pictures shared through his personal Weibo, will be released to public’s eyes.

His fans made him strong but also made him safe. He never afraid to stay close to his fans, because he knows his fans will never harmed him. The unique bond between Han Geng and Gengfans is also well recognized by the people who work in entertainment industry. That’s also what made me proud calling myself Geng-sister fan, because it makes me the part of fans with unique mannerism too.

Han Geng grew bigger in the past year of 2010 and even bigger this year. His Weibo’s account broke the record of 2,500 followers for less than a year, showing the level of his high popularity. Not only gaining many awards, he also gained more international fans. On one hand, having wider range of fans is a great achievement for Han Geng. It makes his works get wider acknowledgment. On the other hand, the wider range of new fans made me worry. Slowly the unique manner is changing.

I can’t help myself, that from few of his latest events, I was quite freaked out by manners I didn’t expect before. Seeing pictures I never seen and shocking manner I never expected.

1. Close up pictures of Han Geng taken by fans, means that the fans got really close to Han Geng, something that never happened before. No human barrier to kept Han Geng from such too close action.

2. The screaming fans during few events. From the old videos, fans used to scream only while Han Geng was dancing, but when he’s singing, no screaming will be heard, so it was easy to enjoy his tenor voice and enjoying his singing performance. But lately, the screaming didn’t stop while he’s singing, that made the video on Han Geng’s performance totally difficult to enjoyed 🙁

3. Violating his private time by continuously tweeting his friend’s twitter account.

Our love for Han Geng is not a crazy obsessive love. Not a delusional love. Our love for Han Geng built from respect and admiration. We respect his distinctive characters and charming behavior. We admire his multi-talents as well as his hard working. Han Geng, by his wisdom and his kind-heart, is a great role model to many people including Gengfans, but those don’t make him a living god. We can admire him but not making him the target of our worship activities.

Han Geng is a superstar but he is also a human being. As a superstar, he will show his great performance on stage as well as his charming and heart-winning behaviors off stage in front of public and his fans. But as human being, Han Geng needs privacy and time for being himself. Time when he can put down his make ups, his diva attributes and enjoying his “me” time to recharge himself, so he can return to stage with full force to perform the best of him to re-pay all the supports given by who love him with whole heart including us, his fans.

Han Geng treats his fans as his friend. There almost no distance between him and Gengfans. But Han Geng also a man of respect.

“I will respect you, why won’t you respect me. I need respect too. But when I gave your respect but you didn’t give me respect, then I won’t be happy with you”.

Of course we don’t want that someday, we can’t welcome him anymore at the airport, because his management decided to take the exclusive entry rather than the regular one, to avoid uncontrollable crowd that could harm Han Geng.

Of course we don’t want that someday, we can’t see any of his Weibo’s update anymore, because he block his account to avoid disturbing messages to him or to his friends.

And of course we don’t want him to put distance from us, to avoid extreme behavior that could make his performance ruined or making him must responsible to delusional actions by his fans.

My intention of writing this blog is not to attack or harm anyone’s heart or actions. I write this blog to remind myself and hopefully to remind others who call themselves Gengfans about the manners that made Han Geng proud and praised by others.

From one interesting blog added by my own opinion, there are fundamentals that serve as the basis of the respectful and mature manners from the true Gengfans.

1. Lift anything related to Han Geng, especially fan signs and banner only to your chest height. Lifting fan signs and banner higher will block other people’s view to the stage. Han Geng on the stage would be able to notice it easily.

2. No need for chanting or screaming his name, while watching his performance during concerts, fan meetings or any other events. The purpose of attending the events is to enjoy Han Geng’s performances not for testing our voice volume or the strength of other’s ears.

3. No need to chase Han Geng around. No need to do fussy, noisy, rowdy actions, especially at the airport. Make his safety and convenience as our priority too. Han Geng will notice, recognize, and appreciate us.

4. Do not trespass his private area and personal time. Give him space to recharge and enjoying his holiday without bothered by candid cameras or unnecessary messages.

5. No need to leave continuous messages to his friends’ twitter of weibo’s account, to show that we really care about him. We are not his mothers :D. Han Geng is a grown up man. He knows exactly how to take care of himself. Try to imagine your feeling if you were on his friend’s shoes :p

6. If we need updates on him, just hang on to some trustable sources. No need to bother his friends’ twitter or weibo’s account to get updates. Based on my own experience, Geng-Bao.Net is one of reliable source for real time updates for those who don’t understand Chinese.

7. No need to try to make yourself, as if you were one of his favorite fans. Han Geng is a charismatic and total gentleman. He treats his fans equally with the same level of appreciation and respect. Every Gengfans has a special place in his heart.

Let us put ourselves in a proper place for a true Gengfans, supporting Han Geng from our places with full heart and commitment, because Han Geng already given his heart and commitment first

“You all put in so much effort and never asked for any return. Everyone gave me so much strength and motivation, so I will work extra hard with more and better works to return all you have done (for me). I will not disappoint you”

Han Geng has made us his Wings of Love. Let us put our respect and maturity as the most important points in supporting him. Let make Han Geng proud of us for the next 20 years and beyond by showing him our unique mannerism as Gengfans.

I had lived long enough, I guess 😀 Experienced many fandoms since my teens. Through the whole fandom period, I thought the craziest period was 3 years ago, when I started to follow Robert Pattinson and realized that I have a passion to write. But I was wrong. Though I wrote many blogs and imaginary writings about him, but I realize, it was not the craziest period in my fandom life.

I stopped following Robert Pattinson after a year, because my fangirl side distracted by another star, Ben Barnes. The British heartthrob who won my heart through his role as Prince Caspian. But again, following him was also not the craziest period. I still admire Ben Barnes till the day I write this blog, because I admire multi-talented star with heart-winning attitude and he’s one of those stars. Then, after almost another one year, I distracted once again. This time from someone unpredictible. Someone barely known in my small world. Someone without glorious appearance. Someone very humble and sincere but able to knocked my sense harder than the others. Someone with a name taken from the brightest Venus star, Han Geng. Of course he’s different. The other two stars are actors from England, while Han Geng is a pop singer from other part of the world, China. Of course he’s different. While the other two stars admired by their great looks and acting ability, Han Geng is praised by his dancing talent and crowned as the new Asia Dancing King. Though soon, Han Geng will prove his acting ability too ^_^

Until today, I still mesmerized by his dancing. Everytime I watch his dancing video, I can’t take my eyes off my laptop screen. He’s too dazzling.

and without any logical explaination, I, the Indonesian Geng Sister Fan, someone who don’t understand Chinese languange, never liked Chinese songs for almost the entire of my life, totally fell to his thin & soft tenor voice and to all of songs sang by him. ^_^
A Love Letter to a Stranger still caress my ear and soothe my heart, while his Fire still topping my playlist and becoming my mobile ring tone, which often shocked my surroundings because it so loud.. :p

Besides the multi-talents, I also admire his heart-winning infectious smile and heart-warming contagious laughter. His smiles and laughters reach his eyes and make him beautifully adorable.

But Han Geng is more than just admirable superstar. He is one exceptional rocking superstar. Han Geng rocked my little world and forced out more hidden side of myself that sometimes, shocking.

I remember the first day captivated by his charm. It was 8 September 2010, when I heard him singing “Wings of Love for the first time. Five months after that, on February 8, 2011, I valued each milestone in my Han Geng fandom period, which I never experienced before. The journey of my heart in following and supporting the exceptional good-looking Chinese guy, Han Geng.

Milestone #1
Han Geng made me joined the most friendly forum for non-speaking Chinese international fan like me, GENG-BAO.NET on September 22, 2010. I joined so I can fulfill my needs in finding more information about him. By joining the forum, indirectly, Han Geng gave me the opportunity to met many wonderful friends from around the world and sharing my crazy obsession with those who have the same love for Han Geng.

Han Geng also taught me the new meaning of “devoted fans”. Never in my life, I met a fanbase as strong and mature as the so called “Gengfans”. And because of the special manner, I am proudly calling myself, Gengfans.

Milestone # 2
My Geng Obsessive Disorder, gave me shocking moment number one. It made me write 12 blogs in 5 months, while in the same period of months, I only produced 4 to 5 blogs about Robert Pattinson & Ben Barnes. Han Geng definitely the stronger booster to my writing desire.

Milestone # 3
Because he is Han Geng, I joined the Birthday Singing Project, last year organized by GENG-BAO.NET. Shocking moment number two, I let myself singing one line in GENG-BAO.NET’s Wings of Love with my face seen by everyone. Embarrassed? nope. I am proud of it. Because I did that all together with other Gengfans from around the world, in expressing our loves and supports for Han Geng.

Milestone # 4
Through GENG-BAO.NET, I met someone who was the first reader of my blog about Han Geng and day by day becoming my partner in crime, my translator, and at the end my Gengster Editor, sltan. Because of our love for Han Geng, sltan encouraged me to compose a book, as a gift for Han Geng’s 27th Birthday. Shocking moment number three, in almost two months, both me & sltan finished the e-book and the final result already sent to Singapore, ready to handed over to Han Geng, during the Thai Fan Meeting on February, 26, 2011.

Milestone # 5
Han Geng not only made me write and done something I never thought before, but without he realizes, he encourage me to learn the most difficult but beautiful languange, Mandarin. From the first day I met sltan, I made simple notes to every single Chinese character she taught me, and at the same day of Han Geng’s 27th birthday, on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, I will start my first private Mandarin lesson. ^_^

Milestone # 6
Because of my admiration to his charming manner and personality, his amazing dancing talent and his beautiful voice, I challenged myself to join the subbing team at GENG-BAO.NET. For this purpose, I, who’s not at the age of learning complicated things anymore, forced myself to learn new things, subbing and encoding programmes. For this, I send my grateful thanks to onewhomust, whose with her patience taught me the subbing and encoding steps, till finally, able to submitted my first subbing video on February 7, 2011. Proud of myself? of course. But on top of that, I am happy. Because I can contribute my little effort to support Han Geng.

I can not tell, how long my fandom towards Han Geng will last or how many milestones I will have in my journey to support him. Today, on his Birthday, I only want to share my story about how someone with exceptional personality rocked my little world and made me out of my comfortable shell to do things I never imagined before.

To Han Geng, HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Thank you for being so inspirational for me. May all the blessings be with you throughout the new additional year. Keep your hardworking and charming personality as well as your great relationship with Gengfans. I might not be able to give you the 20 years commitment, but as long as I can support you, I will do it with my wholeheart. Because you are one of the exceptionals. GOD bless your wonderful soul.
