Han Geng, flying high Eagle with real talent

Han Geng was nobody to me. For many years, Chinese singers never been my interest. Only when I started to like the Korean boy band, Super Junior, my attention dragged a little bit to one of the only Chinese member in the group, Hankyung. I need 2 months before finally I decided to dig more about him. Starting from his law suit news till chewing every MVs and variety shows he joined. At the beginning, I only shocked by so called “13 years contract”, so I support his decision to terminate the contract and start his solo career. But the deeper I digged, I found out that the modest Han Geng is more than just ordinary guy. Though there was no term of 13 years contract, there was urgency for him to take the road of going solo.

Han Geng, born in Mudanjiang, Heiliongjiang province, Northern China on 9 February 1984 as the only child to his parents, loves dancing since he was 6 years old. He entered the Central University for Nationalities in Beijing at the age of 13 to sharpen his dancing skill. He was famous as “Han Geng who dance traditionals very well”. Traditional dancing was his forte. That forte also brought him to HOT China Audition Casting in 2001, held by the Korean talent agency, SM Entertainment. He won the competition. 3000 to 1.

A day before his 23rd birthday on 8 February 2007, Mr. Li Yu Long, the Korean Manager from SM Entertainment questioned by Lu Yu, the host of A Date with Lu Yu, the points that made the judges of HOT China Audition Casting satisfied with the ordinary 18 years old Chinese boy, Han Geng and decided to made him the winner of the audition.

Han Geng was invited to A date with Lu Yu for the first time, because the production house received innumerable messages within 2 weeks left on their message board, requesting them to bring Han Geng to the reputable A Date With Lu Yu show. It was more than a year after Han Geng, at his youthful age, 18 years, left his homeland, his parents, his comfort zone, alone with no single penny in his pocket, flew to South Korea to pursue his dream, becoming a famous actor.

Mr. Li Yu Long gave the auditions 4 points. The first point was, Han Geng really good in singing. The second point was his very excellent dancing skill. The third point — which I agree 100% with the judges — Han Geng was handsome. The last point, the most important point was Han Geng’s character. He was a kind person with good personality. Lu Yu, the host added that Han Geng was a frank and honest boy. The statement was approved by Mr. Li, Han Geng was different from all the others. He was kind and not pompous.

Han Geng received private lessons in singing, dancing, and acting, as well as learning the Korean language. Because dancing was his forte, he started out as a Class C dancer (the lowest class for dancing), but later on he went straight to Class A, skipping Class B.

After the first debute of Super Junior in 2005, Han Geng slowly showing that he has something more than just the only Chinese member in the group. I began to connect the 4 points above with his role as Super Junior member.

As a member of a group with the largest amount of member, he used to have only one or two lines in singing. Not much to hear. He got his first opportunity to singing solo on the stage of Super Show II and the result was shocking. His soft and thin voice reached its power and gave soul to the song, Betrayal.

One of Mr. Li Yu Long’s point was proved. He really good in singing.

During my period of crazy obsession, I found many videos showing his ability in dancing. Han Geng was learning traditional dance before he went to Korea, and it was really breath-taking seeing him doing the traditional dance.

In Korea, he learned hip hop dance. Totally different from the dance he learned before. I believe dancing is in his blood. He was born to dance. He grabbed the new dancing style powerfully.

I, give the highest appreciation for those who spent their time to make those superb videos of compilation of Han Geng’s dance.

Second point was approved. Han Geng has an excellent dancing skill.

Blessed by a good complexion, with his beautiful straight nose, Han Geng is a good looking young man.

Han Geng,Asian Superstar,Dancing King

With tall, lean and a little muscular build, that make any outfit look good on him, he exudes an extraordinary beauty.

Han Geng,Asian Superstar,Dancing King

Third point, confirmed. He’s handsome. Added with the heart-warming laughter, he will won the heart of many women around the globe.

Han Geng,Asian Superstar,Dancing King

One of my favorite of Han Geng’s was his first appearance in Love Letter Variety Show, hosted by the famous funny MC, Kang Ho Dong. I can’t help myself from bursting into crazy laughter every time I watch the video. Though it was his first time in a variety show, his witty and confident character made his whole part totally entertaining. You can see how the other participants laughed at their most crazy gestures.

Throughout many videos, I can tell that Han Geng was charming, warm-hearted but also witty and confident to any challenge. He showed humble gesture but gave the satisfying performance every time the hosts asked him to show his talents.

The fourth point was proved. Han Geng was different from all the others. He was kind person with good personality. He’s not pompous.

Someone said, talent can become a star but super star is not made by talent. Only those with passion, ability to endure pain and the reasons to endure pain could become a super star. Han Geng proved he has the real talent. He has the real great personality and he has the strength to endure the most painful moments. He’s ready to left everything behind and start from zero, if the entertainment industry can not accept his decision of leaving Korea. He has the distinctive points to become a superstar.

Han Geng, the young Eagle should fly high with his real talents and reach the highest of his dream, by doing solo career.

My little heart in the world of Han Geng

For more than one year, I was one of the freaking crazy overdosed fan of Ben Barnes (and still until now ^_^), the British actor who played Prince Caspian. But I never imagined that during my admiration to the handsome and multi-talented with heart-winning smile British actor, I found another almost flawless diamond.

Like most of Indonesian (I guess), I started my K-pop idol crush from Super Junior. It was one of my young friend who introduced me to them. I was totally into their songs and dance. Though I barely remember the process, but I can tell that after watching Exploring Human Body (Korean Variaty Shows with Super Junior as their guest star), the sweetest boy in the group really caught my heart. Hankyung. Not because he was the drop-dead gorgeous type, but he caught my heart with his charming and witty attitude. And yes, his soft voice and giggling laughter were the other things that caught my attention.

I couldn’t stop myself from browsing the internet to find more about him. I tortured my internet connection by downloading loads of his performance videos, then torturing my eyes to watched them over and over again. Yes, he has the adorable and endearing personality, he’s cute and witty. He made every events and variety shows he attended worth-watching (I think even Kang Ho Dong loves him a lot ^_^). Yes, he has the greatest dancing ability. His sexy dance left me nosebleed all the time but his traditional dancing skills grow more of my love for him. Not to forget about his acting skill. His acting in Timeless and the day he pranked Patty Hou were proofs to his acting skills. (I will talk about his voice later :p)

But above all that, he has the quality that I adore the most, the shy yet heart-warming smile that bright my days everytime I saw it.

Han Geng,Asian Dancing King,Chinese pop singer

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 was D-day. The day when I found the video of “Wings of Love” It was the first time I heard him singing fully solo. What can I say? I was not one of those young girls who screaming for him because of his sexiness (though I agree, Han Geng brings the sexy back :p) or because of his handsomeness. I am just a simple ordinary woman who admire multi-talents. But his voice.. I don’t know how to explain my feelings about his voice. I off to my bed along with Wings of Love and Betrayal as my lullabies. His voice was the softest and the most soothing one, but when he took the high pitch, he put the whole power on it. Surprisingly, he also able to sing up-beat songs. Everytime he sings, he put soul to the song. He’s singing from his heart. He has the voice and skill of a real talented SINGER.

I can’t get more updates lately, because my young friend who introduced me to Super Junior admires Dong Bang Shin Ki & Shinee more than Super Junior, so I just like left alone in the dark side for the past few months, knowing only little-tiny part of his news. But thanks to my crazy browsing period. Though I blurry remember which link I hit when I finally found Because you are Han Geng, and again started torturing my internet connection and my eyes to read everything single story posted there. I love the way all of the authors put their stories. Very friendly and easy to understand, but never lost its essentials. For newbie like me, their blogs, written all in English, was the treasure-chest.

Han Geng is the first Asian star that really caught my eyes and my heart. He has the remarkable multi-talents that makes me support him fully. The more I learned about him, the more assured I was that he SHOULD spread his wings and fly as higher as he can. In my own humble opinion, Han Geng is worth more than just “the only Chinese member of number one Korean pop idol group” He’s worth to become the “One & Only Han Geng”. I will leave the sad memories about his 7 years period in Korea, because those years though it was hard and heart-breaking, formed him to become the stronger Han Geng today. I will only see the days when he started his new life back to mainland China. The days that made me proud of him. I am very proud to watch the videos of his total amazing entertaning performance on his solo concert, last mid July. I am very proud of him for being supportive for many events, especially charity events. I am very proud of him because he, with his powerful influence, has been chosen as the image spokeperson for the “Colourful Volunteers” of Guangzhou Asian Games (this one really beyond my imagination, that he voluntarily signed himself up to this event).

I believe it’s never too late to become Geng’s fan, because he has the multi-talents and strong heart that will make him stays long in this entertainment industry. I am supporting him in my own way. Not the crazy overdosed blind-folded way. Han Geng is the boy who dare to leave his convenient shell to pursue his dream in far away country, alone. The boy who passed many hard moments and cried only in his heart. The boy who has great talent but not able to pull it out to its ultimate. Han Geng is the boy who finally turned into a man and fight for his own liberty. The man who has the voice that can ease and soothe painful heart. The man with kind heart who treats his fans as his friends. The multi talented with heart-winning attitude. The charming & down to earth man with heart-warming smile. The former Chinese member of Super Junior, Hankyung who now becoming the Asian superstar, Han Geng. To him, I give my support.

Ben Barnes, in the world of Dorian Gray

I am no classic novel reader, the only classics I ever finished was Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. So the name of Oscar Wilde and his book, the Picture of Dorian Gray was out of my head. Only because I was freaking crazy overdosed by the British blood actor, Ben Barnes, who caught not only my eyes but also my heart since I first saw him in Prince Caspian, I acknowledged the phenomenal story.

The novel was intriguing, shocking story to the society when it first released. But over the Century, it became very interesting, especially for the film makers to bring the story about timeless narcissist to the silver screen. The Picture of Dorian Gray was probably one of the classic stories which has many movie adaptations. I never watched the other adaptations, but when 2010 version started to hit the big screen my obsession to Ben Barnes, made me wanting to watch it.

I read the novel after I watched the movie zillion times. I read many negative reviews, especially from those who already read the novel before. In one hand, I was glad that I watched the movie before I read the novel, because if I read the it first, I am positively sure, that I won’t watch the movie. The book was more psychologically horrid than what visually shown in the movie (though it was rated R) :D. But on the other hand, I have to admit, upon my admiration to Ben Barnes, the movie was lacking the essential of the story. So to those who never read the book or even heard about Oscar Wilde, watching 2010 Dorian Gray will send them into blank spot. Letting them bewildered. It will only becoming the gothic-horror- easy-to-forget-hedonism-pleasure-seeking movie.

Though in the book, Dorian Gray was described as golden haired and blue eyed ultimate handsome young man, but no one can deny that, the tall and aristocratic looking of Ben Barnes exudes an almost supra-natural beauty and made him the perfect choice for that role. Added by his ability to captured most of the emotions, he was convincing as Dorian Gray. As for me, his acting made the movie bearable to watched.

But the reason I write this blog was more than just my admiration to the British heartthrob upon his role as Dorian Gray. The reason was the background of his decision in taking the tantalizing role of Dorian Gray.

Ben Barnes,Dorian Gray,Prince Caspian

Ben Barnes read the book since his was teen and still thinking that Dorian Gray was the greatest story ever told. As to the world of celebrity-obsessed, youth-obsessed culture, “ Dorian Gray telling Wilde’s morality tale about eternal youth, ageless beauty, self-indulgent, pleasure seeking and the pitfall you might fall into, if you pursued them so relentlessly”. He fully understood that being cast as Dorian Gray is like being told that he is the ultimate in beauty and with his gorgeous look, he could be trapped in the world of celebrity obessed, just like Dorian Gray. But from his growing fame as an actor, he also learned that Dorian Gray was close to his world. He decided to take the role because “Wilde’s story is still extremely relevant. It really proves how little we’ve learned I think. We put so much emphasis on aesthetics and the power of staying young and all this botox crap. It’s nonsense

The movie might be disappointing, the script might be lame and lack of essential, but I would still send my thank you to the actor who played the title character, because of his deep understanding, he was able to deliver the strong message about the story, “Wilde’s novel is quite able to explain what one shouldn’t do to be happy – one should quit paying much attention to appearance

Living in the modern era of Dorian Gray world, Ben Barnes on his ultimate youth and beauty, refused to follow the rule by emphasizing his opinion, “We live in a society obsessed by youth and beauty, but I’d like to be something more than just a pretty face“. Because “The fixation on fame and appearance damage the personality, I don’t want to stay young forever”

I write to share what I see through my heart, my personal point of view and my own analysis.
