Ben Barnes: from leafy Wimbledon to the hall of fame

I am very firm about the reasons of my flipping heart. But I also must be sure that my crazy overdose phenomena on Ben Barnes was not only because he was irresistible. Is he just only one other pretty faces showcasing guy or is there a real talent came along with the package?

First, try to imagine this. You see a picture of a male, blessed with an aristocrat face, remarkable cleft chin, sharp cheekbones – you could cut a loaf of bread with – a straight nose, a pair of big & piercing dark brown eyes, thin lips to hide a set of dazzlingly white, perfectly straight teeth, which he flashes frequently in a smile that could lift your heart and charm women around the globe. As additional to those, he had flocks of flowing chestnut hair that can make him a model of Herbal Essences adverts. According to my personal opinion, Ben Barnes, born in leafy South – West London on 20 August 1981 could be crowned as one of the most strikingly handsome looking male in the universe. Even the gossip-hound, Perez Hilton, was itchy to put his face on his site =p

Strikingly handsome (M)

So, what is he doing in Hollywood? This is what I think about his journey to become an actor.

Ben decided to go into acting at age 17, but his psychotherapist mother and psychiatric professor father, asked him to go to University first, which he did. He graduated from Kingston University where he studied English & drama specializing in Children’s literature in 2004. Well-prepared, self assure and ready to do his dream job, acting.

Ben found his fame hard to believe, but never call him an overnight success. He will get irritated. “I’ve been working quite hard at this now for 10 years” He was a choir boy, who has to quit the choir after his voice broke at age of 15. Joined the National Youth Music Theater for 6 years. Appeared for the first time at age 16 in the West End, Bugsy Malone, directed several productions while he’s in the University, did Sinatra tribute concerts and funky Stevie Wonder stuff. Though he found it was embarrassing, but he experienced being a member of a group called Hyrise, performed one song for the Eurovision song competition in 2004.

I can understand if he got irritated when people said his fame now is like winning a lottery. He’s truly working hard before he finally made his first film debut in Matthew Vaughn’s Stardust in 2007 as young Dunstan.

Well, I watched Stardust, realized later that it was Ben Barnes who played young Dunstan. He was cute there but Robert de Niro (and Charlie Cox and Claire Danes of course) caught my attention more than him ^_^

In the same year, he won the audition for the cocky-straight student role, Dakin in Allan Bennet’s play, the History Boys at West End, London.

During his break, he took a chance to played Russian thugs in indie movies, Bigga than Ben, which I found very amusing. His Russian accent was almost perfect and his expression as Cobakka was unbelievably very fun to watch.

I think his acting as Dakin was great, because the casting agent of Prince Caspian spotted him, and finally invited him to go for an audition of Prince Caspian. After sending his audio taped line, read only one line in different way, Andrew Adamson finally found his “Prince” Without delay, he was moved from the History Boys stage to the boot camp where he took six hours a day to learn horse riding, wield a sword and language coaching.

I watched Prince Caspian 5 times (I can’t believe myself watching it more than twice, it must be crazy overdose phenomena). He’s unbelievably handsome (who could tell he’s already 26 that time) and almost perfect as a knight. His horse riding ability and sword fighting were convincing and his Spanish accent was almost flawless. While the movie itself was really worth-watching, a perfect reason to watch the movie more than twice ^_* Prince Caspian brought Mr. Barnes into stardom. Not only made him famous all over the world, but the fame brought him more offers to play in various movies.

Stephan Elliot gave him the role of a charming drip mama’s boy John Whittaker in Noel Coward’s movie adaptation, Easy Virtue. I have watched it, it was funny though a bit irritating to see him weak in personality. The thing that made me like him more is his soulful pop baritone voice. Listening to his voice singing A room with a view really melts my heart.

His matinee idol looks and his utterly charming attitude, brought interest to Barnaby Thompson, the producer of Dorian Gray, a movie adaptation from Oscar Wild’s novel. He saw Ben’s expression – during Easy Virtue filming breaks – switched in a moment. His brown eyed charm imperceptibly turning to something blacker, something deadly. “It was the Dorian Gray journey in a single look”, said Thompson. He sent Ben to Oliver Parker, the director, who was at the beginning, worry about the the acting ability of the good looking actor, but later approved Ben to lead his movie as the timeless narcissist Dorian Gray.

To his relief, he also got a chance to swaps his novel stereotype roles to an ordinary role in US thriller, Locked In. He could use his gray jumper and jeans, which made a nice change for him to play Josh Sawyer, a father who’s has kid too young and put inadvertently his young daughter into coma. He speaks American accents. It was thrilling, to see him tortured by his daughter’s condition.

And of course the continued role as Caspian. For the third installment of the Chronicles of Narnia, he is in production of the Voyage of Dawn Treader. He would playing the older and self-assured King Caspian, with ong hairmustache & beard, whe looks more irresistible *_^

Though it’s only 8 movies from 2007 – 2009. But the various roles gave him the opportunity to expand his acting ability. From naive young boy to Russian scum. From a young prince to the self-assured king. From mama’s boy to narcissist corrupt and a tortured father.

Not to forget his newest enrollment to Killing Bono, a movie based on Neil McCormick’s novel, “I am Bono’s doppelganger. He would play Neil McCormick (hope to see him singing there ^_^).

To this stage, Ben’ choices indicate that quality stories are a top priority for him as an actor, rather than taking the easier route of doing work that cashes in “flavor of the month” trends. He’s almost perfect, with a very good looks, versatile acting, with accent as his forte and great vocal, quoted from Collin Firth, Ben Barnes is shaping up to be a rather formidable actor.

The irresistible Ben Barnes

Like I said in my previous blog, Ben in many ways took my whole attention. I found that I fell for him because he’s different. Though his face was not the sexiest symmetrical shape, but all of its parts resembles perfectly. For me, he’s one of the world-class aristocratic handsome. From tons of his pictures, there are some of his pictures that really hyperventilating and breathtaking. His facial expressions, either in photo shoots or public appearances, could look unbearably handsome, amazingly stunning and irresistibly enchanting.

the Prince

I also found that he could look perfectly dreamy, otherworldly and totally endearing.

the Prince

But he could also took a breath from my lungs with a piercing deep-sharp stare came from pair of his almond dark brown eyes.

the Prince

The brooding Ben, could make me drool and ready to swoon.

the Prince

I was romance novels reader. Most of the male character in a romance novel, described as extraordinary handsome, calm and mysterious. They could burn your head and could not take them out of your mind. Thanks to Ben, with his aristocratic looks, I can read most of my romance novel with his face in my mind *_^

the Prince

Even though he could look cute and perfectly dreamy, but his manly captivating expression could make you wishes more than just seeing his pictures.

the Prince

I could tell myself, it was not a bizarre thing, if I experienced this phenomena of freaking crazy overdosed. it wouldn’t be easy to resist his charm and take his captivating & drop-dead gorgeous face out of imagination.

the Prince

Ben Barnes could win my attention and probably other women’ devotion, because he is one of the world-class epitome of sexiness.

the Prince

Though I like Ben very much these days and don’t know how long his spell will bundle me, I know one thing for sure, his looks won’t be enough to keep me as a loyal fan. I still need to find more quality on him. I still need to write about his personality and his acting ability from time to time, because I believe, Ben is not just another pretty face showcasing actor, he’s also amazingly talented.

Reasons of my flipping heart

For almost one year I was overdosed by Robert Pattinson. His perfect symmetrical face with the most beautiful blue – grayish eyes successfully captivated my mind and bundled my heart under his spell. But without notice, the amusement faded. It was probably because most of his news were only about how famous he was as Edward Cullen or probably because most of awards given to him were popular awards. I could not see any progress on his acting career. As a 38 years old woman, pretty face would not be enough to make me loyal to an actor. I pulled my self out of anything related to Twilight & Robert Pattinson for almost one month. Until in one ordinary day, without understandable reasons, I picked Prince Caspian and watched it again for the second time.  I couldn’t remember the exact reason why I chose to watch Prince Caspian, but I did remember my reaction when I watch that movie, the actor who played Caspian was extraordinary handsome and his accent was different. (I just found out later that it was Spanish accent =D).

Prince Caspian - S

Within the last few months too, I found my new habit, the unbearable curiosity.  It was the fervent basic of my journey to find more on the actor who played Prince Caspian, the captivating British actor, Ben Barnes, who was infamous in my country, Indonesia. At the beginning of my searching, I found bunch of amusing facts about Ben Barnes that almost similar with Robert Pattinson and enjoying my time to write blogs about them. I spent almost full of 3 days & nights to wrote 10 blogs. One of the craziest time in my life I guess ^_^

I was harvesting complaints from my friends over my flipping heart. One even commented that I was not loyal *_^  Well, don’t care much actually since for me loyalty only belongs to my faith and to my marriage, not to anything else including actors. So I continued my new passion, Ben Barnes.

It was not easy to follow Ben. I could find tonnes of his pictures, but I have to admit that Ben doesn’t have lots of thing to write about. He’s not fame hungry, barely has interviews, not “out there” getting media attention.  But the more I look at his pictures, the more of my curiosity was getting bolder. I am not on the stage of freaking crazy overdose stage (thank GOD for that), I am just OVERDOSE 😀 Therefore, I must write my reasons about flipping my heart to the strikingly – handsome – but – look – younger – than – his – age, Benjamin Thomas Barnes.

These are some of the the reasons of my flipping heart.

Even though he doesn’t look like the most wanted bad boy type and doesn’t have the perfect symmetrical jaw line with aristocrat-straight nose but he’s totally handsome.

th Prince

And of course, he has the remarkable cleft chin which makes him even more alluring

th Prince

Usually, most of British actors have a pair of beautiful blue or green eyes. But Ben, he captivated my heart because his eyes were different. He has a pair of the darkest eyes which some people called as “demon eyes” (in some ways, I could agree with that). But his eyes are special and unbearable enchanting. His eyes could pierce your brain and stop your heart beating.

th Prince

I like guys with long & slender fingers. Probably, it was the distinguish quality of tall guy. Adding more fuel to my passion, Ben also has it. Not only having the long & slender pianist fingers, he himself also able to play piano. Well, again, I like guys who can play music instruments. Ben could play piano and drums. It was remarkably interesting. An opposite to each other. One is instrument of melody and the other one is instrument of rhythmic. That fact makes him more adorable ^_^

th Prince

Ben has a dark brown straight hair. He has to grew it longer because he still in the production of the third film of Narnia,  The Voyage of the Dawn Treader where he took the role of King Caspian.  Do I mind with his long hair? Nope. He could cut his hair or let it grow, he still dazzles me.

th Prince

What could be more interesting than to see a guy with great smile and beard tied his hair?  Attractive object for my eyes and mind.

th Prince

I like tall guys. They caught my eyes easily.  And I think I have good taste on guys 😀 because Ben has the tall and athletic lean 6’.1” build, makes him looks good in any outfit.

th Prince

I love to see his laughing pictures.  His laugh reaches his eyes. It makes the whole expressions are pure, fresh and lovable.

th Prince

The most captivating of his appearance is his sexy contagious smile. It was very rare to see him without his smile. His smile completes his polite demeanor and makes him very endearing.

th Prince

It was not enough to put only three pictures of his brilliant smile, but it would need more place to capture all of it. So, I dedicated one separate page for his heart-winning-brilliant-sexy-contagious smile ^_^

These are what I had in mind when I looked at his pictures. I write so I can share what I see through my heart, my personal point of view and my own analysis. To see pictures in bigger size or more pictures of Ben, you can visit Ben’ Gallery on the right side of this page.
